Kalf Kozies are designed in Canada to meet the expectations of Canadian ranchers and farmers. They are manufactured in China under strict quality supervision, crafted from custom-spun and dyed materials.
The Weitzels are a real ranching family in Northern BC, Canada, and designed the Kalf Kozies to meet the demands of their rugged ranch lifestyle.
a. Kalf Kozies are made with a water-resistant polar fleece. This wicks moisture away from the calf, keeping them dry, but also prevents water from snow, sleet, or rain from entering and making the calf cold and wet.
b. The tag number patch on the right ear is made of faux leather.
a. Based on our realistic math from local cattle markets and our own experience, we firmly believe that using Kalf Kozies on all your calves will be more than worthwhile for your pocketbook, not to mention saving you tons of time!
b. Frozen ears bring a 10-15 cent/lb deduction on your calves in the fall sale
c. Based on a 700lb steer, this would be $70 – $105 per calf!
d. Based on a price of $28.99 for a Kozie, you have created a 100% Return On Investment…and that is just in one calf. A Kalf Kozie can be used on multiple calves over several years!
e. Take a few minutes and think about your own herd. What other investment has this kind of return? So far, we haven’t found any, and we doubt you will be able to find one either.
a. Putting on or taking off the Kalf Kozie is super simple! You don’t have to wrestle the calves or somehow man-handle them into it.
b. Simply roll the Kalf Kozies so you have the noseband handy, put it over the calf’s nose, and pull it up to the ears. Tuck both ears into the ear pockets. The pockets are designed to be big enough that their ears can breathe and move freely, and will even accommodate their ear tag if you have already processed them.
a. Our seams are designed to not easily come apart, and because the Kalf Kozie is not designed to fit too tightly, the seams do not experience the stress that some of our competitor products experience on their seams, especially those made of neoprene.
b. The proprietary ear pockets allow the calf’s ears to flex and move naturally, encouraging circulation and preventing sores. This also means there is no “ear recovery time” after removing the Kozie….unlike we see in other brands that tightly squeeze the calf’s ears against its head.
c. The gentle noseband allows the calf to easily suck and continue eating. Most other similar products cause the calf to sulk and stop eating, preventing the calf from getting the necessary colostrum in the early stages.
d. There is no need to use duck tape or neoprene fabrics that cause the calf to sweat and develop sores on their ears.
e. Our water-resistant fabric keeps the calf’s head and ears warm and dry even in snowy or sleety weather.
f. Remember, a happy calf is a healthy calf!
a. This is one of our many perks of the Kalf Kozie over our competitors! The right ear of each Kozie has a faux leather rectangular patch. By using the marker supplied with the Kozie, you simply write the tag number on the patch.
b. The markers that are supplied are designed to not wear, rub, or soak off while the calf is wearing the Kozie.
c. When you move the Kozie onto another calf, simply use a damp rag and the marker will rub off. Let the patch dry, and you can write the number for the next calf on it.
d. If you need more pens, simply contact us!
No! Unlike our competitors, Kalf Kozies are designed with stretchable fabric and an adjustable neckband equipped with rust-free, heavy-duty snaps to easily adjust for smaller or larger calves. We offer a true “one-size-fits-all” product that does exactly what it claims! We use the Kalf Kozies on our Simmental calves with no issues.
a. The short answer is that we have never had a Kalf Kozie come off or be licked off!
b. With no adjustable Velcro straps to collect mud, dirt, and straw, you don’t have to worry about any adjustments coming loose and allowing the Kalf Kozie to fall off. Plus, not needing to adjust Velcro straps and trying to fit the Kozie to the calf saves on precious time, something that is especially appreciated on a cold night!
c. There is no need to wrestle a young calf and cause them stress; simply slip it on and adjust the neck snaps if needed.
d. The full-head style design provides maximum warmth and protection, while at the same time helping to hold the Kozie in place comfortably.
